The University of Texas at Dallas is closely monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus), and there are currently no known cases within the UT Dallas community.
At UT Dallas, faculty, staff, students, alumni and researchers are doing their part to meet the challenges of a global pandemic. The following highlights the efforts taking place at the University:
Sanjeeb Samanta BS’94, MS’95 understands the challenges international students face. So he worked with the University to set up an emergency fund to help them during the COVID-19 pandemic. (05/21/20)
Researchers from four University schools developed dashboards so that government entities and the public can access the same data about the pandemic. (05/26/20)

This is a stressful time replete with worry for ourselves and our loved ones. Sadly, there are reports from around the country of people choosing to express their fear with hostile words and actions toward others solely because of their nationality, race or ethnicity. In light of these disturbing incidents, UT Dallas reaffirms its focus on our long history of respect for and support of people from around the world. It is essential to reaffirm that our University welcomes all, regardless of their country of origin, race, heritage or ethnicity.
For the sake of community safety and based on the latest guidelines from the CDC, UT Dallas has suspended all University-related international travel for students and employees for the rest of the calendar year.?
Faculty, staff and graduate students may request approval for University-sponsored domestic travel for the purposes of advancing the research mission of the University. Examples of anticipated travel include attending a research conference and conducting research in the field, at an institute of higher education, a company, or a national lab.
Until further notice, travel authorizations for University-sponsored domestic travel will require approval from the employee’s supervisor and dean, and the provost.
Additionally, the Department of State advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. If you are returning from any international destination, you will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon your return.
According to the CDC, fever, cough and shortness of breath are among the most-common COVID-19 symptoms which may appear in two to 14 days after exposure. If you or anyone you know has traveled to countries designated as Level 2 or higher
— where widespread transmission has occurred — or has been in close contact with a traveler to one of these countries and is exhibiting any of these symptoms, we advise that you follow guidelines recommended by the CDC
.
The health of our campus is very important. As with any communicable illness, we encourage students, faculty and staff to always take precautions to avoid becoming sick. Please review CDC guidelines on preventive measures:
Faculty and Staff: As always, if you have any concerns that affect your ability to work, contact your supervisor.
